Gatekeepers vs. Evolution: "The $16.4 Million Shockwave" Part 3
Part of the Market Records & Milestones series.
The hammer has fallen, the record is set, and whether the "gatekeepers" like it or not, the history books have a new entry at the very top. On February 15, 2026, the collectibles world watched as Logan Paul’s PSA 10 Pikachu Illustrator—the same one he wore to the ring at WrestleMania 38—sold at Goldin Auctions for a staggering $16,492,000.
The $16.4 Million Shockwave: Facts over Speculation
According to Ken Goldin, the final stages of the auction saw a fierce battle between three high-level bidders, with venture capitalist AJ Scaramucci ultimately taking the prize. While purists argue that 98% of this value stems from the Pokémon TCG market, we have to look at the math. Our previous top wrestling item was roughly $170,000. For this $16.4M sale to be the #1 wrestling item, the "WrestleMania provenance" only needs to account for 1.21% of the total value.
To claim that being worn at the biggest show on earth by a global WWE Superstar added zero value is a disservice to the industry. If the wrestling connection added even a tiny fraction of value, it officially becomes the most expensive wrestling-related asset ever sold.
Expanding the Horizon: Crossover Potential
I personally believe that ignoring these crossover items would be a grave mistake. We are living through a time where nearly every auction cycle creates new records, and the data is proving that "hybrid" items hold immense power. Consider the following:
- Razor Ramon’s Gold: Scott Hall’s iconic solid gold necklaces. At today's gold prices, the melt value alone would exceed $200,000, not including the "Bad Guy" premium.
- Mr. T’s Chains: A set weighing 35-40 pounds of gold would easily out-price any single card or pair of boots we currently know.
- Eddie Guerrero’s Lowriders: The custom vehicles Eddie drove to the ring are one-of-a-kind pieces of Americana and wrestling history that have yet to hit the major auction block.
A Stronger Foundation
In the end, I want wrestling to be spotlighted. When you compare it to Pokémon, wrestling is—on average—far greater and rarer. There are millions of cards, but only one "Jungle Robe" (sold Aug 17, 2024) and only one WrestleMania 38 debut necklace. By including this record, we aren't degrading the business; we are proving that wrestling has a foundation strong enough to support the most expensive collectibles in the world.
Final Thoughts: The Market Decides
This is event-worn WrestleMania 38 memorabilia. Period. Shaking up the status quo is what takes our passion to the next level. I’d love to hear your takes—drop a comment on the site or hit me up on X. Woooo!
